In 1908, a small comet tore through Earth’s atmosphere and exploded above the Tunguska region of Siberia, flattening vast stretches of wilderness in a single instant. The blast was heard hundreds of miles away, and its light was visible across much of the world. Had it struck a populated area just hours earlier, millions could have died.
More than a century later, humanity faces a far greater threat.
A massive comet, hundreds of times more powerful than the Tunguska object, is thrown off course after a deep-space encounter with a black hole. Its new trajectory points directly at Earth.
The discovery is kept secret by a select group known as the Inner Circle, made up of influential figures including the President of the United States, a former astronaut, and an unlikely middle school science teacher. With twelve years before impact, they begin a desperate race against time to find a way to stop the comet.
