SHADOWS OF THE PAST by Eric Goebelbecker

The Martians failed in 1894. In 1915, humanity may not be so lucky.

German soldier Emil Zimmerman is already enduring the hellish trenches of the Somme when a familiar, bone-chilling howl cuts across the battlefield. The Martian Wanderers have returned—adapted, stronger, and this time, with allies. Across enemy lines, Emil uncovers a treasonous conspiracy: a rogue General hoarding alien weaponry and plotting a dark alliance with the invaders. Emil must lead a daring mutiny and turn the Martians’ own heat rays against them before Europe is consumed in flames.

Meanwhile, in America, brilliant engineer James Brogan at Edison Laboratories uncovers a silent invasion on U.S. soil. When transatlantic communications fail and a massive explosion rocks Coney Island, James realizes spies and Martian sympathizers are blinding the nation to the coming slaughter. He must step out from behind his workbench to expose a high-ranking traitor and restore the Planetary Warning System before New York falls.

Twenty years ago, humanity survived the first Martian invasion only because Earth’s microbes destroyed the invaders. Now, armed with scavenged technology—deadly heat rays and lethal Black Smoke canisters—the Martians strike with ruthless efficiency.

From the burning ruins of Reims to the crowded streets of Manhattan, the Great War of the Worlds has begun. Humanity’s survival is at stake, and this time, the cost could be total annihilation.
